Milepost: 12,000

Today "General Hospital" will air episode 12,000 and the fishing blog for Beaver Creek Cabins & Guide Service will have 12,000 views. Not exactly the same magnitude for milestones but I'm sure the executives at "General Hospital" would have never thought it would go on as long as it has. Ditto for me.
If you check out my first post I felt that keeping a blog can be a little too self indulgent. I still feel that way. I've tried very hard to keep the reports about the fishing brutally honest and the stories to be about the people I've met and not so much about me. It doesn't always work out that way but I do keep on trying.
Anyway, I'd like to say thanks to all of you who have taken time to see what's going on with Jane and I. We'll keep trying to inform you and maybe entertain you once in awhile.

Twiggy The Water Skiing Squirrel

I hate to say it but the star of the St. Cloud Sportsmen's Show was Twiggy, the Water Skiing Squirrel. Sorry Ted Takasaki and Jimmie Lindner but the rodent drew larger crowds than you guys did.

The sport show was busy but I had to see for myself what all the hubbub was about the water skiing squirrel. I waited until the last performance to see the show within the show. For all of you who are little bit older Twiggy first shot to fame with his appearance on "Real People" back in 1979. Since then he has appeared in all media including the "Tonight Show". So I'm thinking to myself how old can Twiggy be? Turns out that this was Twiggy Number 8. I had flashbacks to the horror of finding out when I was a kid that I didn't meet the original Lassie but rather Lassie Number 4. Anyway, Twiggy donned his life jacket, a great example to all the kids and parents alike, and jumped into to pool and proceeded to be towed around by a remote controlled miniature boat. Quite the professional. It almost seemed like Twiggy was waving to the crowd as he jumped the wake from the little boat.

It was a great sport show and Jane and I enjoyed our visits with old friends and with people who can't wait to visit the Land of the Midnight Sun.

St. Cloud Sportmen's Show February 12th-15th

Just a heads up about the St. Cloud Sportsmen's Show which starts a week from today. If you are in the area and have thoughts of coming to Alaska this summer it would be worth your while to stop by to check out the "show specials" that we offer. Sport shows are the only place that we offer discounted packages so you don't want to miss out.
For those of you who have been to Beaver Creek Cabins I'm sure you'll recognize where this photo was taken. If you guessed the deck of the Chinook cabin you would be right. As you can see the photo was taken last spring before the leaves were out. If watching moose is what you are after then you'll want to be here in the spring/early summer. Moose aren't always the brightest animals but they sure seem to know when the hunting season begins in August. Up until then they seem to be everywhere.
See you in St. Cloud.
